What are the VW, Audi, SEAT, Skoda and Mercedes Diesel Emissions Actions about?

Over the years, regulators around the world have tried to ensure that car manufacturers make environmentally friendly cars and only output what they deem to be ‘ acceptable’ levels of emissions. However, certain car manufacturers such as VW Group (Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda and SEAT) and Mercedes have been accused of using “defeat devices” to cheat emissions testing on some of their models.

This has meant that the vehicles that were sold produced significantly higher emission levels than advertised, were produced in breach of the Emissions Regulations and therefore consumers were misled when purchasing their car.

FAQs

European Regulators have found that Mercedes cheated emissions tests and lied to consumers about their diesel cars that were being sold, saying they were more environmentally friendly and efficient than they were. In doing so, this means that owners paid more than they should for cars that were less environmentally friendly and possibly with lower fuel economy than advertised. Consequently, if you sold the car you may also have got less than you might have expected because of this issue.
